For so many years in the house of representative that it was talked and debated, and now it’s a law. Republic Act 10533 or other known as Enhanced Basic Education of 2013. An Act enhancing the Philippine basic education system by strengthening its curriculum and increasing the number of years of our basic education.
Most parents on the poverty social status that don’t understand the new law may have a violent reaction specially in this time of crisis that many thing are getting expensive, thinking adding another two (2) years in their children schooling is an added burden for the family. Likewise for those who are in the high-end social status in life reacted the same way but in a different point of view.
I may say that this law is for the masses of Filipino. As this law provides an opportunity for those who are less fortunate that cannot afford their children to enter into colleges. Almost 70% of the graduating class in public high school each year is just waiting to receive their high school diplomas as a requirement for job seeking mostly in the service oriented kind of job or rather an assistance oriented type of work. Most of them are financially unstable that cannot afford to enter the tertiary level of education. RA 10533 provides these students to enter employment ready and legally. First, employment ready, for the reason that they are equipped with skills and knowledge that enables them to be efficient enough for the job they enter to as they are well trained and well oriented for the additional two years in the senior high school. Second, legally, that most of the graduates of the senior high school are at legal age to be fit to work that will avoid labor manpower abuses of the minor that rampantly happening now a days. Most of the graduates in senior high are at the age of 18.
On the other hand, with this law, our college graduates will be able to compete in a professional manner globally wherein RA 10533 provides the additional two (2) years basic education that most newly industrialized country have implemented. Most of our professional cannot be promoted or accepted globally for the reason that they don’t recognize our educational system as for them it is incomplete. So with this law, many opportunities for our professionals to work globally without any hesitation, question or discrimination.
Most likely for Filipino’s, changes are shocking and intriguing. We must learn how to evaluate things and issues that happens around us before going against it. Just like in a military motto; “Obey first before you complain”. Who knows, even this law is not that so perfect, it may come so handy in many ways for our children in the future. And we cannot say it will not work until we do try it. I only hope that our government by enacting this law, in able to make it happen, provide what is needed and support what you had written, cause it just a waste if all of this will just remain a law that is not properly implemented and on its implementation, monitoring and accountability is required to make this law a success that every Filipino’s children will benefit from it. As per DepEd motto; “Mag-aaral muna”. Cause this students are still the future of our country.
