According to John Wick, Nature is always in balance, but humans only thrive in certain environmental conditions and “right now, for much of life on the planet, there is too much carbon in the air and too little carbon in the soil”. Some of the human activities like burning, use of polluting pesticides depleted our soils and crashing our eco-systems, and now even planted landscapes are off-gassing CO2.

Therefore, the school should provide a program that could deliver the importance of boosting photosynthesis and cleaning up the mess the school created. This can be called a “School Compost Project”. The goal of it is to establish the school vegetables in support of the School Based Feeding Program.

During the conduct, green meeting should be implemented in school in which could be headed by the principal or EPP Coordinator. Different activities must be planned and initiated and one of these is a “Composting”.

The EPP Teachers can prepare a compost pit near the school garden. Its size should be ensured which would be suited to the waste materials and would be enough for aeration.

The preparation of organic waste matters should be made sure wherein the materials are cut into pieces. The separation of organic waste should also be done. Grass trimmings, fruit and veggie scraps, green leaves and livestock manure must be properly placed at the compost pit. These waste materials must be mixed by adding some water every 7 days. The compost can be checked regularly to know if these will become dark-brown and smell just a soil, so that it can be used as fertilizer by mixing it to the garden plots.

The production and consumption of vegetables and fruits would be strengthened and intensified because of the compost project. With the right conditions, organic wastes such as food, grass, flowers and other plant materials are decomposed by bacteria, fungi and other organisms. And since this project could be turned into success, the school should continue the practice of composting and they even introduced other programs which are related to gardening.
