Sleep is a basic necessity of life. The current 24-hour society, we use precious night time hours for daytime activities. In the past century, we have reduced the average sleep time by 20% and in the past 25% years, added a month to the average annual work time [National Sleep Foundation, 1999]. The sleep habits society has changed but the bodies of individuals have not.

Most of the students experienced not having good enough sleep at night according to expertise [Webmd.com]. Sleep loss dumbs you down. Many of us do not know that sleep play a critical role in thinking and learning. Lack of sleep hurts there cognitive processes in many ways. First it impairs attention, alertness, concentration, reasoning and problem solving this make it more difficult to learn efficiently.

Sleep Deprivation can lead to serious problems like heart disease, heart, failure, stroke, diabetes and many more but what is sleep deprivation? Sleep deprivation is the situation or condition of suffering from a lack of sleep.

According to [TedEd] adult need 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night while adolescence need about 10 but why? Base on my research while we grow up our biological sleep patterns shift/change towards later times both for both sleeping and waking during adolescence meaning it is natural for adolescent not to be able to fall asleep before 11:00 pm.

Students, teachers, parents and Department of Education should be aware that enough sleep and rest affects the academic performance of the learners. So through this information, it may develop and find other ways to strengthen the academic performance of every students and also to have solutions to the effects of lack of sleep.
