The spices that make teaching and learning attainable are the teacher, the learner and a conducive learning environment. Only when a positive relationship exist among them can teaching and learning occur, with precision and predictability.
The teacher and the learner are the key players in a learning environment. It is said “there is nothing in the mind which was not first in some manner in the senses”. Thus, all learners are equipped with the cognitive and appetitive faculties. They differ however in the degree to which they are utilized and expressed on account of the learner abilities, aptitudes, interests, values and attitudes.
As teachers, we are called not only to instruct learners in our subject but to be good influences on them. Henry Adam once said, ”A teacher affects eternity; no one knows where his influence stops.”
We are the manager in the teaching- learning process. We give encouragement, support, assistance and understanding of many individuals who are driven by a never-ending search for more knowledge and information.
Only when the learner is nourished materially and spiritually can he/she be complete for that is his/her very mature.
