The Future of the Students Lies in the Hands of the Teachers

“Be proud you are a teacher, the future depends on you.”                 This quotation from former DepEd Secretary Ricardo T. Gloria should always be remembered and internalized by every teacher. “Be proud you are a teacher, the future depends on you.”

This quotation from former DepEd Secretary Ricardo T. Gloria should always be remembered and internalized by every teacher. Everybody knows the importance of the role the teachers play in our society. Teachers are the catalysts of change. In the hands of the teachers lie the futures of our country.   In the hands of the teachers lie the futures of the students.

The quality of the graduates depends on the quality of the teaching that the teachers have given them. If the quality of the instruction is high definitely the quality of the learning will also be high. As teachers we should not be satisfied with mediocre teaching, instead, we should always strive for excellence. Remember that we are producing manpower that should be equipped with the knowledge and skills that they will need in the future. We should be producing globally competitive graduates.

The job of the teacher is not that easy because we have to set standards for our students so that they would learn to strive for excellence. As teachers, we should always set good examples for our students to follow. As teachers, we should always remember that in our hands lie the futures of our students – in our hands lie the future of our society and the world.

I would like to share the poem that I wrote to all the teachers so that they may always remember the calling that God has given us. I would like every teacher to ponder on the lines and internalize the vocation of a teacher.

The Prayer of a Teacher

by Emelita L. Gaor – Paguio

Lord

You called me in the midst of the night

You called me to be Your servant

You’ve wanted me to guide Your little children

You’ve wanted me to teach them right…

Who am I to fail You?

Who am I to say no?

I am one of those who’s very lucky;

Because you believe in me…

Lord

Through Your grace and mercy

I’ll serve you with all my heart, mind, and soul

Use me as Your instrument to guide Your children

Use me as Your instrument to mould them

Create in me a good teacher’s heart

So that my students would be loved

Help me to show them their good sides

And to change the bad

Because You said, “…For such is the kingdom of God!”

Guide me, oh Lord, so that I could guide them to You

Guide me so that I could be their example, too!

Grant me the courage to face the problems and consequences

Help me to be more persevering so that I could teach them the meaning of true service

Help me to be fair so that I could teach them what is just and what is not.

Lord

Send me the Holy Spirit so that I could do all these things

So that my students and I, as a teacher

Will walk hand in hand to You

To praise You and glorify Thy name.

Amen.
