The role of a teacher does not end in just writing lesson plans, completing forms, and teaching students all day. Teachers play many roles in the process of education. These roles are not only limited to school but also to other spheres such as performing of other duties given by the government or administration from time to time.
ROLES OF A TEACHER
Teacher as an EDUCATOR – The most common role a teacher plays in the classroom is to teach knowledge to children. Teachers are given a curriculum they must follow that meets state guidelines.
Teacher as a FACILITATOR – A facilitator is the person who assists a group of people in desiring at their common targets and in achieving them without any intervention on his/her behalf. The teacher should grant the learners some space to let the spirits of creativity and innovation.
Teacher as a COMMUNICATOR – It is the teacher’s role to listen and empathize with students and respect their views.
Teacher as a MENTOR – Within as active teaching environment, the teacher’s role is to guide, mediate, instruct with a smile.
Teacher as a CLASSROOM MANAGER – For the teacher, this means utilizing classroom management techniques all throughout the lesson in order to maintain a consistent learning atmosphere.
Teacher as a PROTECTOR – Teachers are taught to look for signs of trouble in the students. When students’ behaviors change or physical signs of abuse are noticed, teachers are required to look at the problem.
Teacher as a CAREGIVER – Teachers as caregivers are in the forefront to be rich and powerful resources for those children who feel frustrated, helpless and angry.
Teacher as a ROLE MODEL – Teachers typically do not think of themselves as role models, however, inadvertently they are. Students spend a great deal of time with their teacher and therefore, the teacher becomes a role model to them.
TEACHERS EXPECTATION
Guide the learning process of students in the classroom toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
Consult with administrator, colleagues, students and parents on a regular basis.
To help students learn subject matter or skills that will contribute to their development as a mature,responsible men and women who become lifelong learners.
Meet those standards of performance for his/her individual teaching assignment.
Cooperate with administrator or department head in assessing the performance of the teacher.
Perform other related duties as required.
The teacher does not stop being a teacher alone. Whatever the role of a teacher to his students, I believe that it adds impact and it surely contributes a great help in their lives and definitely a part of reaching their dreams.
