There is no subject like TLE. Being the key learning area in the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum, it is now the focal point of major revision.Career Pathways-Technology and Livelihood Education is emerge as the system for all learners of the said subject wherein from grade 7 up to grade 8 they will choose mini-course among the four major components on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Home Economics (HE), Industrial Arts (IA), and Agriculture and Fishery Arts (AFA). Entrepreneurship is integrated in all areas in TLE and its components.TLE is focused on technical skills development in all mini-courses of each component. Five common competencies, based on the training regulations of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), are covered in the exploratory phase (Grades 7 and 8): Lesson 1: Mensuration and calculation, Lesson 2: Technical drafting, Lesson 3: Use of tools and equipment, Lesson 4: Maintenance of tools and equipment, and Lesson 5: Occupational health and safety. These lessons can be arranged defending upon the needs of the area. The specialization phase is from Grades 9 to 12. It is the time that student needs to choose one mini-course that would be his specialty until finishing Senior High School (SHS). This CP-TLE program will train high school students for self-employment and provide pathways for further training in a chosen career. It will be very beneficial to them, because it provides work/job that will continue on person’s life. Moreover, CP-TLE builds confidence in the graduates.
Home Economics (HE) guarantees work abroad, because of the Caregiving and Dressmaking courses offered. The latter can also give them a chance on establishing a small shop that makes bags and caps. Bake shop is waiting for them if they take up Bread and Pastry Course; service on the nail care is around the corner because of Nail Art Course. They can be a receptionist or room attendant in a hotel if they take Household Servicing, and a good position in a high class restaurant is waiting if Commercial Cooking is their target.
Industrial Arts (IA) pushes our learners to have jobs in a large factory here in our country and in the Middle East when they choose Electrical, Electronics, and Plumbing Courses. If they want to put up a welding shop then Shielded Metal Art Work (SMAW) is what they looking for. Refrigeration and Air-Condition Servicing (RAC) is a mini-course for those who are interested to repair air-conditioned units and refrigerators. Mason and carpenter are your positions when you pursue Masonry and Carpentry. Tile Setting is also part of the IA that gives you job that satisfies your needs. Car Repair and Car Wash Shop can be your business if Automotive Course is your chosen way.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) gives our learners to be on the stage of technological development. Computer Hardware Servicing sends them to become Computer Technician while Desktop Publishing makes them busy on working with, catalogs, magazines, and brochures. Photo Editor is needed when editing pictures and tarpaulin making. On the other end, Auto CAD is on its popularity because of easy way of making plans of homes, bridges, cars, and high rise buildings if you plan to enroll in Technical Drafting. Lastly, PC Hardware Servicing is training students to repair computer and its hardware parts and because technology is involved they are up to date on the latest inventions, innovations and developments in almost all new gadgets in the market.
Agriculture and Fishery Arts creates a wide variety of cultivating land and breeding of animals. Horticulture Course makes them skillful horticulturists through applying the science on how to make fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants grow faster. Crop Production let our students, who want to deal in farming aware on the latest technology on how to produce quality outcome. Aquaculture inspires students to build their own fish pond, while on animal Production they can be the source of meat in the market. And in Fish processing, they will know how to preserve fish that is left. With these opportunities ahead of our students, there is no subject like TLE that can assure our graduates a better future.
