Formal Speaking is speaking about a specific topic before a specific group for a specific purpose. It requires in- depth knowledge about the topic and needs long time and preparations before presenting it to particular group. You might think that a formal talk is hard you will find it easy when you follow these steps.
-Know your listeners- It involves the number of people in the group, age, sex, race, education or occupation.
-Select a topic- The topic to be discussed depends on the occasion and on the type of audience. It should be of interest to the group keeping their eagerness to listen until the end of your talk.
-Define your purpose- You should define clearly what you wish your audience will benefit from your talk. Your audience should understand and appreciate what you are telling them.
-Gather your material- Use varied information that will make your topic more interesting such as personal experience, experience of others through interview, research in media technologies such as computers and internet.
-Practice giving your talk- Practice your presentation in front of a mirror, detailing your facial expressions and gestures. You may memorize much of your talk particularly the ideas you want to be given emphasis.
-Talk with confidence- As a speaker; you should appear relaxed and comfortable showing your readiness and full knowledge of the topic.
