When we say unity that is the state of being united or joined as a whole, while diversity is a noun that state that variety , unique , different. For the Greater Good Scince Center , it means understanding that each individual differences. These can be along , the dimension of race , ethnicity , gender , sexual orientation , socio – economic status , age physical abilities religious beliefs , political beliefs , or other ideologies.
To understands each student brings unique experiences , strenghts and ideas to our classroom….Diversity is the exploration and incorporation of tehses difference to enrich learning in our calssroom.
Diversity in the classroom builds better thinkers according to some research by oirganizational scientist , psychologist , sociologists and economist and demographers show that socially diverse groups that is , thoise with the diversiuty of race , ethnicity , gender and sexual orientation are more innovative than homogeneous groups. Callenging students to consider different perspectives can also teach them how to interact with thgeir peers on a scoial level , and equip them with skills they’ll use for the rest of their life.
Having a diverse group of students simply means recognizing that all people are unique in their own way. Children go to school to be prepared for the workforce , so teaching must effectively address and embrace the realities that come with living and workingf in diverse school, community and country. When schools take inclusive approaches to diversity , studnets bare more likely to see their indentify represented in classroom materials or others students don’t feel included , they’re more likely to not participate and feel more liekly inferiors to their peers.
According to the study , studnets in the most diverse classrooms were more likely to feel safer , less lonely and less bullied at school. “ To understand an idea is to understand the ideas that surround it , including those that stand it contrats to it. Idea diversity creates a rich environment for ideas to involve into new and more refiend forms. This pedagogical approach may help students to apprecaite and value alll forms of diversity and how diversity enriches learning.” All the students in school are unique individuals , this will as a teacher we need a time to know more about our students. With the everything that you have to keep track of and work on , it mights be diificult to find the time to intentionally build relationships with students — especially as a teacher.
I think when we know our students and understand their streghts and weakness , well be better equipped to promote diversity and work with teachers to adressthe challenges and opportunities that come with a focus on diversity in the classroom. Part of supporting diversity in the classroom is creati8ng space for studentrs and educators to talk about how issues of discrimination affect them on personal , classroom and school – wide level. The more diversity is a topic of discussion in school , the less studnets amnd teachers will hesitate tio addres sit.
