Our students always asking, why study Social-Studies? From the Elementary years up to the Secondary time Social-Study becomes a part of students learning. On a student point of view they find history as a boring subject. They don’t want to study people, events and happenings about the past. They don’t want to study things about other nation and the relation of this on what they have now. They have lack of interest on about the social sciences. And this has been a great challenge for the Social Studies Teacher to arouse the interest of our Student.

The branches of Social Sciences that are incorporate with Social Studies are Sociology, Anthropology, Demography, Political Science, Economics, Geography, History, Psychology and Linguistic.  We often think that Social Studies focus only on the History, but there is lot more with this subject. This article focuses on why we should be eager to study Social Studies and how it tackles about Social Sciences.

In our everyday life, routine or regimen, we have patterns of the way we live. We are bounded by one Law, beliefs and we are living in one country. One of the benefits of Social Studies is it provokes the awareness of the students. Society is a group of people bounded by beliefs that contrast to the preceding imagery of nature.  Sociology is all about the interaction of all the individuals on the Society. It involves the psychosocial capabilities of individuals in the society. Economics is the study of the flow of economy that pertaining to the allocation of the limited resources. The ideals of economics are what the country rely on. Anthropology discuss about the holistic study of humanity. They usually focus on the ethnography that describes human cultures and society. It explains the behavior of each ethnic people that belong in society. For example the values of the Filipinos are different from other countries. Demography is the study of population and everything that affects it, how the population grows and the aspects that directly affect the population. Political Science studies about the Art of Politics; the policy and ideology that make politics one of the major trends in a country. Geography shows as the physical features of the world. It helps us study some kind of land and water forms. It also show the physical habitat of the earth where people live. Psychology helps us study about the Behavior of an individual, the cause and effect of this behavior and how it can affect the behavior of other people. Linguistic is the study of language and language system. And lastly the History, it shows us the glimpse of the past, and it shows everything that has been written and pass through generation. Social-Studies is a compilation of Social Sciences that are essentials for learning.

The term Social-Science is a body of knowledge characterizing an objective to understand what society is and what it does to the people living inside it. This is a group of rather independent disciplines – with its own respective philosophies, intellectual histories, research and methodologies fundamentally bound together because they deal after all with the same entity called Society. The word social pertains to the whole concept of people and their social issues.

Social-Studies been the part of curriculum for many years, we study this subject to boost our awareness about our society and be vigilant enough to face the issues of our country. Students must appreciate this subject in able for them to be more efficient citizen of this country. They must arouse there interest to know about our culture, history, society and the issues that happening around them. And the Social- Studies is a great start for them to get involve with the things that will really matter.
