In the past three years of its implementation, the K-12 Program has been one of the most controversial innovations implemented by the Department of Education. Filipino educators, parents, private sectors, and even students themselves didn’t miss the opportunity to voice out their opinion and express their stand regarding the implementation of the program. Nevertheless, the Administration has been consistent and firm in the enactment of the then bill RA 10533.

It seems that persistence really pays off. On its second year as a law, the Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum survives all the controversies and still manages to upgrade itself by adopting a new grading system. From the KPUP (Knowledge, Process, Understanding, Performance/Product) Grading System that uses letters to grade students, the K-12 Program is now saying hello to WW,PT, and QA which will be implemented as the Program’s new grading system effective school year 2015-2016.

Written Work, Performance Task, and Quarterly Assessment shortened as WW, PT, and QA are the components of the new K-12 Grading System. It still uses the ‘’standards and competency-based grading system” which highlights classroom assessment as “an integral part of curriculum implementation.” However, letter grades known as “Levels of Proficiency” in the old Grading System (KPUP) will no longer be used to reflect the grades the students. Assessment of the students will be reflected using numerical grades which will be based on a set of policies and guidelines stipulated in Dep Ed Order No.8 series of 2015 also known as Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K-12 Basic Education Program.
