In this modern-day world,students are confronted with several destructions that hinder the learning process.Computer addiction is one of them.Teachers must then be on the lookout for this possible addiction.
Take for instance,Robert who sleeps through his morning classes,not because of his homeworks and projects,but because of computer games.Another case is Jerry,who always needs extra allowance from his mother not to be used for school projects,but payment for computer interactive games.Another situation is that of time mismanagement.Mario seems to be always in a hurry,since he is always late in submitting of projects and assignment because computer games are time consuming.
The mere fact that we are in a new generation,students become very aware of computer games.They acquire sense of belongingness for those students who play with them.They find happiness and enjoyment playing computer games.
According to research,the cohort age of computer games player are 14-18 years old.So the High School students are most likely the patronizers of computer games.If the students display practices like sleeping during class hours, asking extra allowance from his/her parents for projects,and submitting projects late then,the students are likely addicted to computer games.We can consider these situations as addictions in computer games which a teacher can easily detect in the classroom.If she/he noticed the act of Robert,Jerry and Mario then it is possible that these students are addicted to computer games.
Any form of addiction is bad,whether narcotics,alcohol or computer games.How can teachers help these students from computer games addiction?More importantly,how can they help themselves or how can a teacher help them to stay away from this computer game?
Teachers must see to it that they have enough time to talk to their students heart to heart.They should establish a good rapport to one another.Maybe by this,student will realize how important the time is.That,instead of using it a non-sense activities,why not use it in other important things.They can help students who are addicted to computer games by telling them to use their will power strongly.The teacher can advise these students to have a limit in playing game,and most of all,he can tell these students to use their time wisely elsewhere.A teacher can advise them not to be possessed by computer games,instead they must realized that time is very precious and they must use it wisely.Technological advances such as computer games are inevitable.The responsibility now lies in the head of the classroom teacher to determine whether computer addiction is present and hinders learning.The earlier the addiction is,earlier prevention can be made.
