Learning is a continuous process. It is acquired through various ways .A child’s life in school depends so much on teachers and educators. To make them learn progressively, the teacher must understand the guiding principles of learning which are presented below:

  • Learning is the acquisition of knowledge, habits, skills, abilities and attitudes. It is acquired through interaction with others. It is also the process of experiencing, doing, reacting and undergoing.
  • Learning is meaningful. It takes place when the child gains insight or understanding into the learning situation. It integrates experiences into larger meaningful tasks.
  • Learning is facilitated by motives or drives. When a child is strongly and properly motivated, he sets a goal to be accomplished. Learning is best when he knows and understands his motive in learning.
  • Learning is facilitated by the law of readiness or mind set. When a child is ready, learning occurs more efficiently with greater satisfaction. Mindset is conducive to effective learning.
  • Learning is facilitated by the law of exercise. Practice and exercise retains memory. Lack of practice weakens learned knowledge.
  • Learning is improvement. A child involves himself in various activities with his schoolmates measuring how much he had learned. He enjoys meaningful experiences with them and enjoys satisfactory relationship with teachers and classmates.
