The K -12 Curriculum envisions “holistically developed learners with 21st century skills”. According to DepEd discussion paper (2010), the K-12 Curriculum aims to enable every child to achieve mastery of the core competencies and skills. Is our country ready for this? Are teachers and pupils ready? Are resources and materials ready?
The new curriculum was implemented because our country is ready for this. Our higher ups pursue it because they are sure that we are ready, they envision the effect of it not only on our country but also internationally. In implementing K-12 program there’s good and bad side that all of us experienced. Let us focus on the good side so that all of us can implement it in the best way all of us can. By proper trainings of the competent DepEd leaders teachers uplifted their knowledge. By clear dissemination of facts and information about the new curriculum, dos and don’ts, new grading system and other related things about it, of course the teachers are always ready for it no matter what. The big part of the success of this program….. is on the part of the teachers. As K-12 teacher stop complaining and making arguments about it. Let’s push for it and go for it. We are lucky because we are all competent and let us all do our calling by serving our pupils and by that we are serving our Savior. If teachers are ready and so the 21st century learners. All the resources are ready also but the problem is on the materials, they are not enough to suffice all the needs of the learners and the teachers as well. But lucky enough we have the groups of Taga DepEd Ako, DepEd Tambayan, K-12 Teacher and a lot more to help teachers in need. On these groups all teachers not only in the Philippines are benefited. The bayanihan spirit of all teachers are always there. All are focused, motivated, prepared, inspired, some are doing extra ordinary efforts to help others. That’s the 21st Century teacher is.
Teaching depends on the love, dedication and devotion of the teacher towards the subject of the knowledge no matter how hard or tough the situation is, how old or new the curriculum, how many paper works and reports will come, the teacher can cope up and adjust to it. Let’s have a positive attitude towards accepting what the new curriculum might bring and we have our common end and that is the success of our learners, thus it is our success and the success of our country .
