Poliomyelitis is one of the causes of mortality in children in the Philippines. Due to its increasing rate in our country, the DOH implemented an introduction of new vaccines and high impact Five Strategy Review for Health workers as per WHO advise. The aim of implementing this is to eradicate poliomyelitis and make every country polio-free. The new vaccine which is the Inactivated Poliomyelitis Vaccine was introduced as an additional routine vaccine for children less than 1 year of age. The traditional trivalent oral polio vaccine was switched to bivalent vaccine adding IPV. Children receiving 3rd dose of OPV will be given also one dose of IPV. Another vaccine was introduced and that is Pneumococcal Conjugate vaccine (PCV). It is indicated for children under 1 year old for the purpose of minimizing the complications brought by pneumonia. Children will receive 3 doses of the vaccine with at least 6weeks old for the 1st dose followed by one month interval for succeeding dose. Since it is new to the community, proper dissemination of information as well as health teaching was emphasized by healthcare providers.
